ByWay Package:
Valleys, Vineyards & Views!

Hosted by the Buckwheat Valley Guesthouse, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA.

This Rt15 ByWay of the Arts roadtrip features Buckwheat Valley Guesthouse, the Meiserville Inn, the Perry County Council of the Arts Gallery, Hunters Valley Winery, Little Buffalo State Park, and plenty of other options, depending on your length of stay.

Your leisurely getaway begins with arrival at the Buckwheat Valley Guesthouse, your country home away from home—a log house on eight acres with sweeping views of Buckwheat Valley. The Guesthouse can accommodate two to six guests and a simple, yet delicious Amish-made loaf of bread and jar of jam will be waiting for you in case you’d prefer breakfast at ‘home’ before traversing the countryside.

On your first evening here, we recommend that you take advantage of the included dinner coupon and enjoy casual upscale dining at the historic Meiserville Inn, a fully renovated 1870s inn. Their eclectic menu offers pub grub, succulent steaks, chops and crab cakes, gourmet dinners, and tantalizing desserts, along with Hunters Valley wines by the bottle. There’s also a full bar for your favorite cocktail or frosted mug draft beer.

On your first morning, enjoy your Amish-made delights or immediately head south on Rt 15, hanging a right just below Liverpool to travel scenic Rt 34 to the old canal town of Newport. Espresso Yourself Café on the Square serves not only a great cup of cappucino or latte, but they never cease to impress ‘foodies’ (for either breakfast
or lunch) with artistic culinary creations made with the freshest of local ingredients. This favorite town hangout also delights in showcasing the work of local, talented artists.

Next stop is right across the street, the Perry County Council of the Arts. Their landmark Gallery features the work of well over 100 acclaimed local and regional artists. It is the perfect place to find one-of-a-kind hand-crafted treasures as well as exemplary fine art. Paintings, weaving, pottery, sculpture, and jewelry reflect the spectacular diversity of media in this rural arts community. Luckily, this weekend package also includes a 10% discount on any purchases made at the Gallery!

Round out your visit to downtown Newport with two quaint antique shops, natural food store and more. Then if you are the outdoors type, you might want to consider a stroll or rigorous hike at Little Buffalo State Park just three miles away—invigorate your other senses, burn off the caffeine, or rebuild an appetite.

Before returning to your Guesthouse (traveling back on Rt 34 and right before getting back on Rt 15), stop at Hunters Valley Winery to pick up your complimentary bottle of wine! Delicious tastings of their varietals are enhanced by majestic views of the Susquehanna Rivera popular site for many plein aire painters. Enjoy a walk among the vineyards and then find art and wine related items for sale and gift giving.

After an enjoyable adventure, return to the Buckwheat Valley Guesthouse as an idyllic sunset unfolds while sipping some of the wine you picked up and reminisce about this little slice of heaven in Central PA. Then settle into your pine canopy bed after a soak in the Jacuzzi tub and dream "sweet dreams" of your continuing adventure on the Rt 15 ByWay of the Arts!

We are always happy and at the ready to offer suggestions for extended stays. Some weekends that may be of special interest are when the Winery has their open houses or the Arts Council hosts special events. Please visit our calendar of events at to find out more. Your days are open canvases for you to fill with color.

Hope to see you soon!
