About…PA Artisan Trails
Modeled after successful artisan trails programs across the country, the PA Artisan Trails initiative combines a celebration of handmade, quality arts & fine crafts with regional tourism and local economic development initiatives. The Trails offer visitors self-guided road trips, each capturing the unique essence of its local area with a diverse assortment of artisan partners, as well as information on select lodging and dining establishments.
PA Artisan Trails made its debut to the public in 2006 after extensive planning and preparation conducted by a coalition of several state agencies and private organizations, including the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Department of Community & Economic Development, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. These groups recruited art and heritage organizations, established criteria, provided training and evaluations, and more.
Currently, there are six active Trails that focus on local and regional artisans and related partner activities that support and celebrate arts and heritage in each area. Find out more at PAArtisanTrails.com.
